Hong Kong, Singapore and Norway come out on top as SSS-tier birthplaces in our ranking, and Japan places 8th out of 172. We scored every entry in the game's official country list on three things: how long people live, how many children make it past age five, and income. The game wants you to think seriously about a life you didn't choose. Players, of course, went straight to building a tier list of spawn points.

SSS and SS tiers: the 13 best places to be born

Rank Country or region Tier Life expectancy Under-5 mortality Income per person (price-adjusted)
1 Hong Kong SSS 85.5 0.2% 64,435
2 Singapore SSS 83.7 0.3% 130,297
3 Norway SSS 83.3 0.2% 94,365
4 Switzerland SS 83.9 0.4% 85,383
5 Luxembourg SS 82.2 0.2% 130,049
6 Macao SS 83.1 0.3% 104,815
7 Sweden SS 83.3 0.2% 62,123
8 Japan SS 84.7 0.2% 47,387
9 South Korea SS 84.3 0.3% 54,029
10 Australia SS 83.9 0.4% 60,685
11 Italy SS 83.7 0.3% 52,843
12 Ireland SS 82.4 0.4% 117,660
13 Spain SS 83.7 0.3% 47,323

The official list had 172 entries when we checked it on October 15, 2026. For each of the three measures, we turned every country's position into a score from 0 to 100, then combined them: life expectancy 45%, few deaths before age five 25%, income 30%. A total of 95 or more is SSS, 90 or more is SS, and 80 or more is S. This is our own comparison, not an official win rate and not the game's hidden formula. Income here means the country's economic output per person, adjusted for local prices, so it is not your character's salary. Some older pages of the game still say 141 countries; every number here comes from the same 172-entry list.

Hong Kong wins on long lives, Singapore on income, and Norway by being strong on all three. Japan looks great on life expectancy (84.7 years) and child survival (0.2% deaths before age five), but give income more weight and its 8th place changes. If happiness matters more to you than money, Finland's life satisfaction score of 7.74/10 is worth a look. Before you crown a winner, decide what counts as winning.

The toughest starts: the bottom 6

Rank Country or region Life expectancy Under-5 mortality Income per person
172 South Sudan 57.6 9.7% 900
171 Central African Republic 57.4 9.3% 1,133
170 Somalia 58.8 10.4% 1,402
169 Chad 55.1 10.1% 2,434
168 Niger 61.2 11.3% 1,713
167 Congo - Kinshasa 61.9 9.1% 1,559

This table compares the conditions you are born into, not the worth of the people who live there. Nigeria has a life expectancy of 54.5 years and 11.7% of children dying before age five, so if you look only at early childhood, it is even harsher. North Korea ranks 116th on these three numbers, but they say nothing about how freely people can choose their schooling or work.

What are the odds of rolling a top-tier country?

Add up the birth shares of the top 13 (using the site's rounded figures) and you get about 1.82%, or roughly one roll in 55. That applies when the game picks from “Babies born now”, weighted by births. Pick “The 8 billion alive now” instead and the odds follow population. Japan alone has a 0.57% share of births, about one in 176.

You can't choose your country, either. The field for the country where you were really born is there for comparison only. Typing “Norway” is not a secret reroll button.

Put numbers on the starting stats and the gaps between countries are obvious. Whether an SSS start turns into an SSS life is another story. The birth screen is not the end credits.
