Description: The Transmogs and Spelltheft mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 vanished for a while, and Xbox and PS5 players panicked about their modded saves. It’s reportedly back now, but that alone doesn’t fix a broken save.

Short answer: A mod getting pulled from the mod list does not delete your save. But a save that was made with that mod can fail to load if the mod is missing.

In early August 2026, Transmogs and Spelltheft, a mod that lets you change how your characters look, suddenly wasn’t showing up where players normally got it. An Xbox player asked on Reddit: will it vanish from my installed mods too? Will I lose my campaign halfway through? Some replies said their long playthroughs wouldn’t load. Others said they kept playing just fine.

There are really 3 different questions here. Can you still download the mod? Is it still installed on your console or PC? And does your save actually load? The original poster later edited the post to say the mod was back, and other players said they could see it again too. Those are player reports, though, not an official promise that every save on every platform works again.

Larian’s own support page says modded saves can freeze on the loading screen or crash the game. And Larian can’t directly fix mods made by other people.

If your save still loads, don’t start unsubscribing from or deleting mods just to test things. First, write down which mods you use and their versions, keep your saves, and check whether the mod is still available. On PC, back up your save files. If something breaks, check your original mod setup and look at Larian’s support and the mod author’s notes separately. One Xbox player finished a long campaign by using Quick Resume, but that’s one person’s story, not a fix that works for everyone.

Bottom line: A mod being taken down doesn’t wipe your save. The real danger is losing a mod your save needs, mid-adventure, and then not being able to load it. Don’t delete saves or mods on impulse. Nobody wants the last boss fight to be against the mod menu.
