Description: Sett and Samira arrive on October 27, just months before 2XKO winds down active development. Here's why fans are excited and uneasy—and what Riot has actually promised about the game staying playable.

Sett and Samira are due on October 27, 2026, and Riot is treating them as the completion of 2XKO's roster. Active development ends at the close of the year, but Riot says the servers will stay online afterward. A final character release is not the same thing as a shutdown date.

The characters people wanted, just as the curtain drops

Riot's October 8 gameplay reveal finally gave players a date for both fighters. Fans who came from League of Legends now get to try their favourites in a tag fighter, including the explosive sword-and-gun style of Samira. Normally, that would feel like the start of a whole new season of experimenting with teams.

One Reddit user on October 9 said that Sett's absence was a big reason they hadn't spent much time with 2XKO. Now they can't wait to queue up when he launches. Their post encouraged others to play on October 27 and show Riot that a community still wants the game. That's a genuine player's hope, not a reversal of Riot's decision.

There is an unusually bittersweet twist here: a character can be exactly what brings someone back, even as the schedule says this is the last major content drop. A welcome party with an end-of-development announcement hanging over it is a strange combination.

What continues after December?

In its August 20 statement, Riot explained that not enough players stayed to make ongoing development sustainable. The October patch is planned as the last major content update; a December bug-fix patch may follow if needed. Riot also laid out changes intended to keep matches available, including moving matchmaking into casual lobbies rather than maintaining a separate ranked pool.

Crucially, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players are supposed to be able to download and play 2XKO after 2026. Riot said it would give notice if that plan changes. The company hasn't promised to resume making characters because of one busy launch day.

So the question for October 27 isn't simply how many people log in. It's whether the players who have been waiting for Sett or Samira can find opponents, learn their new teams and enjoy the fighting game that's still there. For some fans, their first real match with a favourite champion is still ahead.
