Badly in Love Season 2 Was Less a Dating Show Than a Human-Behavior Death Game — Chihuahua Taichan, Mislearned Rules, the Looks Market, and a 14-Day Durability Test

Spoilers: episodes 1–10 of the first phase, the graduation results, public follow-up interviews, and Taichan’s retention into the second phase.

Limit: this article analyzes behavior shown in an edited reality program. It does not diagnose cast members or infer their private lives. Trauma and domestic-violence victimization are not romantic defects. Long-term forecasts are entertainment hypotheses, not facts.

1. Five-second conclusion: matching is predictable; maintenance is a different exam

The show becomes surprisingly readable if the only task is predicting who will match. First impressions, looks, visible reciprocity, body orientation, and the way approach behavior increases after someone senses a green light narrow the field quickly. Research using more than 6,600 speed dates found that both consensual desirability and unique early compatibility predicted later romantic interest and real dating behavior.[1] Another real-life speed-dating study found partner physical attractiveness to be the strongest predictor of initial attraction for both sexes.[2]

So “it is all looks” is too crude, but looks are a powerful gate. The harder question is durability. Fourteen days of cohabitation, rivals, tasks, special dates, intense disclosure, cameras, and a final confession are excellent relationship accelerators.[3] They are not the same as handling late replies, alcohol, work, jealousy, chores, and fatigue months later.

Graduation is the job offer. Months three to six are probation.

2. Deep disclosure plus teamwork can produce intense coworkers

The cast works, cooks, cleans, and quickly discusses family wounds, violence, loneliness, and past relationships.[4] That can create trust without automatically creating romance. Relationship research emphasizes the importance of feeling understood, accepted, and cared for after disclosure.[5] Couples who spend a larger share of their time together talking also report greater satisfaction and closeness.[6]

Knowing somebody’s darkest chapter is not enough. Long-term intimacy also needs stupid jokes, hobbies, comfortable silence, ordinary play, and a compatible pace of physical affection.

If you know the worst trauma but have never talked about a favorite manga, the database is deep in a very strange direction.

3. Bikes, hand-holding, sauna, and the overnight villa are powerful accelerators

Experiments show that couples who share novel and arousing activities can experience short-term increases in relationship quality.[7] Ruru herself said the overnight trip with Kazukun was enormous for her decision; she also cited Tokyo-to-Tokyo practicality, his looks, and his considerate behavior.[8]

That is reality dating’s superpower and its blind spot. A villa offers novelty, alcohol, body contact, competition, and a deadline. Four months later offers laundry, unread messages, and “what are we eating tonight?”

The show measures sprint power. Relationships need endurance.

4. Corrected Taichan tribunal: Maririn, Ruru, and Assun confronted him

Maririn gave Taichan a letter and he did not immediately answer her privately. At roughly a next-day timescale, Maririn, Ruru, and Assun confronted him intensely. A Mynavi review highlighted harsh global attacks and described Taichan as a trembling Chihuahua.[9] Hikaru was not directly part of that three-person confrontation, although information from Taichan’s conversations with her circulated and became part of the dispute.[9]

Taichan could have communicated faster if he had already chosen Hikaru. But slow communication and “bad human being” are not the same verdict.

Maririn’s history of domestic violence and trauma is not a defect.[4] A new romantic prospect may nevertheless need time to process a very heavy disclosure. Listening with empathy is not an automatic promise to become someone’s partner. If current trauma symptoms significantly impair life, professional treatment exists separately from romance; the 2025 American Psychological Association guideline recommends evidence-based PTSD treatments including cognitive processing therapy, prolonged exposure, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral approaches.[10]

A partner can support treatment. A partner should not be the treatment plan.

5. The mislearning chain: audit victim Taichan becomes an auditor

Early Taichan was punished for not producing a fast answer. Days later, when Hikaru could not choose among Taichan, Ally, and Bo, Taichan joined Ally in demanding clarity.[11] Hikaru later said she had not yet reached a clear “I like this person” stage with anyone and felt rushed.[11]

We cannot know Taichan’s internal learning. The visible sequence, however, resembles:

I was punished for indecision → indecision must violate the group rule → I should enforce that rule on the next undecided person.

Experimental work shows that people can learn styles of norm enforcement by observing how others punish violations and can generalize those styles to new situations.[12]

Taichan therefore looks like an audit victim promoted to auditor within days.

The punch line is that he later changes his own romantic target from Hikaru to Ruru. He personally adds evidence that feelings change during the process.

6. When did Taichan leave the Hikaru route? He eventually chose “Ruru-sama” and lost every route

Taichan was clearly oriented toward Hikaru early on. By around episode nine he had shifted toward Ruru.[13] At graduation, Ally and Bo went to Hikaru, while Kazukun, LEO, and Taichan went to Ruru. Maririn confessed to Taichan; he declined. Taichan chose Ruru; Ruru chose Kazukun. Taichan ended with no match.

His face tattoos suggest a final boss. His official profile says he is 22 and indecisive in love.[4]

The actual route map is closer to:

Hikaru → heavy conflict → Hikaru still undecided → Ruru-sama → Kazukun wins.

Exterior level 80. Romance tutorial still running.

That mismatch is the Chihuahua charm.

7. Hikaru × Ally: she chose when his affection became fully receivable

Hikaru stayed undecided until the end. Ally confessed before Bo and performed an original song built from their two weeks together.[13] Hikaru later said the song hit her so hard that they might not have formed a couple without it.[11] Her final answer emphasized that Ally had expressed affection repeatedly from day one, that it reached her, and that she felt a great deal of love.

The decisive event therefore looks less like a spreadsheet ranking and more like: this person kept seeing me, kept expressing it, and finally made the love impossible to miss.

That fits research emphasizing perceived understanding, acceptance, and care in intimacy.[5]

Long-term compatibility remains a separate exam. Ally appears emotionally high-amplitude, while Hikaru is slower to decide. “Needs time” plus “needs certainty now” can become either complementarity or a pursuit-withdrawal loop.

The real relationship metric is not maximum happiness output. It is the recovery procedure during irritation.

8. The three couples through a durability lens

The first phase produced Makun × Assun, Hikaru × Ally, and Ruru × Kazukun.[13]

Makun and Assun were mutually focused early. Assun later reflected that she had sometimes spoken one-sidedly and aggressively toward men and said she regretted piling onto people.[14] Alcohol and suspension also produced visible friction with Makun. The long-term question is whether problems are discussed early rather than stored until explosion.

Hikaru × Ally has enormous affection bandwidth. The test is conflict pacing.

Ruru × Kazukun was relatively easy to predict once Kazukun entered. Ruru later explicitly cited practical geography, his looks, his manners, and the overnight date.[8] Public interaction continued after release.[15] That is evidence of closeness, not a lifetime guarantee.

A “three-to-six-month wall” is not a breakup prophecy. It means the test cases omitted by the show begin accumulating.

9. Why LEO and Makun can look unusually normal

LEO stayed focused on Ruru and later praised Kazukun as good-looking and good on the inside.[16] Predictability is valuable in a chaotic cast. Makun also stayed on Assun despite complications.[14]

Both have caveats: LEO escalated to language about carrying a lifetime together very quickly, which can shade into over-responsibility. Still, cohabitation rewards a person whose terms of service do not change every morning.

Dating television rewards explosions. Daily life rewards uptime.

10. So many bars and nightlife jobs: the work schedule itself is hard mode

The first phase includes a bar owner, a host-club owner, bar and cabaret-club workers, and business ownership tied to nightlife.[4][14] This is not a moral criticism of the jobs. It means more variables: late hours, alcohol, intense customer interaction, opposite-sex contact, weekend work, and blurred work-life boundaries.

Add jealousy, harsh conflict language, or inconsistent boundary definitions and the real compatibility test starts after filming.

11. Kazukun’s visual polish is a maintenance system, not just a face

Kazukun has openly said long blond hair looks more sparkling for a host and benefits the shop image, while also saying hair is so annoying that he wants a buzz cut. Long hair at least lets him straighten it without using wax.[17]

He has also openly discussed work on his nose and eyes, including two eye procedures and ptosis surgery.[18] In 2026 he told a story about his current face differing so much from a ten-year-old passport photo that an automated gate failed to recognize him.[17]

He also described reducing pointless drinking and returning to moderate strength training after a period of daily drinking and little movement.[19]

No reliable first-person source located here specified his exact skincare routine, so his clear-looking skin cannot be attributed to one treatment. Skin, shaving, lighting, makeup, hair, brows, teeth, and physique all contribute to the finished effect.

His philosophy is not simply “do whatever is easiest.” He avoids effort where he can but maintains high-return appearance assets.

Host-face 5S and preventive maintenance.

12. The camera is a fence: Ruru said the villa did not go beyond kissing

The overnight date included pool, bath, alcohol, close physical contact, intense kissing, and sleeping together. In a later Netflix talk special, Ruru explicitly said they did not go beyond kissing because cameras were running.[20]

Reality participants are dating while knowing the behavior is filmed, edited, and distributed. What we see is neither pure acting nor an unfiltered private sample.

Yet cameras do not eliminate jealousy, tears, anger, insults, or impulsive choices.

It is not the wild. It is human behavior in an enclosure with cameras and keepers.

13. Final punch line: only Taichan is retained for phase two — the death-game protagonist favored by the director

After graduation, unmatched Taichan is called back over the school broadcast and told he is repeating the year. New members enter and phase two begins.[13][21] He is the only first-phase participant continuing as a student.[22]

We cannot claim to know the producers’ private reasoning, but from a viewer’s perspective he is absurdly productive material: intimidating appearance, young age, indecision, tears, shifting arrows, visible emotional load, enough likability to avoid becoming a pure villain, and no successful match.

A normal dating show says, “No match, thanks for coming.”

This one says:

Producer: “You survived. I like you. Come back for the next game.”

It is the death-game trope where the director becomes fond of the protagonist and forces him into the sequel.

Repeating the year is really a protagonist contract extension.

14. Conclusion: dating reality becomes horse racing for human behavior

Experienced viewers watch episode one like a paddock: who becomes popular, whose face changes around whom, who notices reciprocity, who globalizes a small complaint into a character judgment, who applies different rules to self and others, and who looks capable of operating under the same rules on a boring weekday.

Middle episodes become most valuable with friends because live commentary becomes the content. The finale becomes model validation.

And the mascot of this entire phase is Taichan: final-boss face, Chihuahua reaction, mislearned “be clear” rule, route change, zero match, then an invitation to the sequel.

Becoming less reckless and more serious is genuine growth. It does not automatically mature flirting, small talk, conflict repair, emotional regulation, and long-term intimacy at the same speed.

Sometimes under the tough exterior is not a finished adult.

Sometimes it is a final boss running Chihuahua-level romantic onboarding — and the producers refuse to let him leave the game.
